Tesla Owner Reveals He Has To Pay $26,000 For New Car Battery

If electric vehicles aren’t catching fire in car dealerships, they’re locking out their owners when their vehicle’s batteries need to be replaced. According to Newsweek, Canadian entrepreneur and 2013 Tesla model owner Mario Zelaya disclosed on social media that he would have to pay $26,000 in order to replace his car’s battery and was locked out of his vehicle until he did.

Mario Zelaya admits that his automobile’s battery warranty has run out, but if he wants to sell the car it will be difficult due to the fact that he is locked out and his ownership papers are inside the vehicle.

Worst still, Zelaya says that he would not only have to pay $30 to get new ownership documents, but 2013 Tesla models have issues with the air conditioning condenser unit dumping water onto the battery and the battery is not inspected when Tesla vehicles are serviced.

Newsweek points out Zelaya says that Tesla tried to keep this debacle under wraps:

“I got Transport Canada involved, and they actually did an investigation on the car. Not only did they do an investigation on this car, they’re gonna be doing one that Tesla doesn’t realize is coming up.”

“Tesla’s trying to sweep it under the rug,” he said.

“They won’t give them any explanation of why their battery died.”

After finally selling his Tesla to an interested buyer, Mario Zelaya said: “That’s going to be the end of my Tesla journey. It’s out of my life. Keep it out of yours.” Sounds like very good advice.

  1. The current record for a high mileage Tesla is a German taxi with 935000 miles. The original battery failed at 180000 miles. It eas reached under warranty with a loaner battery. That was removed st 250000 and a new battery installed. That is currently still being used after 700000 miles. It has a good chance of reaching 1 million miles. 1 million miles for the average American car represents 80 years of use.
