The Australian environmentalist group Coast and Country recently scoffed at the idea that a coal mine built by the Indian group Adani would lead to the creation of 4000 jobs directly. According to the Australian Chronicle Coast and Country planned to dispute that claim as part of its lawsuit against Adani’s coal mine that will be located Galilee Basin south-west of Mackay in Queensland. The company predicts that a total of 10,000 jobs will be indirectly created as a result of the mine resulting in millions of dollars in tax revenues.,br />
When the coal mine was announced, Coast and Country wouldn’t have it and initiated a lawsuit to halt construction of the mine while further claiming Adani overstated the benefits of the mine. One financial analyst states that even with approval financing of the project will be difficult and if it does get under way it will end up being abandoned. This touches on the efforts by green groups to discourage financial institutions from lending to mining and other projects that involve the extraction of fossil fuels.
This is yet another instance of environmentalist meddling in the affairs not only of a company seeking to make profits from extracting fossil fuels but also indirectly telling Australians what kind of sources they should power their energy from. With the recent Earth Hour event that took place, the best example of what environmentalists ultimately want is best best evidenced by looking at North Korea.
