When the anointed say that there is a crisis this means that something must be done—and it must be done simply because the anointed want it done. – Thomas Sowell
Despite a hefty taxpayer price tag, several states are requiring cities to transition their public transportation to emitting zero greenhouse gasses.
Since 2022, seven states have passed laws to transition to zero-emission school buses.
In Illinois, a law passed last year requiring all transit agencies to purchase zero-emission buses by 2026. Similar legislation was passed in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland and New York.
The Center Square notes that as a result of this undertaking, consumers could see a slight increase in their utility bills. However, dealing with climate change is very low on people’s list of priorities and, worst of all, inflation is up over 20% in the last 3 to 4 years.
Worst of all, The Center Square reports that electricity rates are up 20.11% since 2020. For transportation, electricity rates are up 28%, the highest for all sectors. Residential rates are up 21.52% and commercial rates are up 20.30%. This on top of the overall strain on the country’s electric grid that is causing rolling blackouts in many areas resulting from the White House’s electrification push. There is also the high likelihood of electric buses catching fire, like this San Jose, California bus did earlier this year.
The politicians and bureaucrats pushing these boondoggles could care less. Not only are they not affected nor pay the price of the results of their policies but the electric vehicle companies benefit resulting from this as a kind of kick back.
