Sun News out of Canada reports the backlash over Ontario’s regulations on neonic pesticides has heated up with grain farmers boycotting a provincial conference on the pesticide’s use. The grain farmers have obviously been hurt by the province’s restrictions which requires farmers to reduce neonicotinoid pesticide use by 80%. One thing that is most striking is that Ontario bee keepers oppose the restriction of neonic pesticides. The Ontario grain farmers trade association is accusing the province’s government of catering to lobbyists and ignoring their interests.
During the latter part of November, Beekeepers in Alberta publicly came out against Ontario’s proposed rules on neonics stating that there was no evidence that the pesticides were affecting their bee populations. Also, a scandal erupted in Europe when it was revealed that a group of scientists had plotted to churn out a study to be used to push the European Union to ban neonicotinoid pesticides.
The entire controversy surrounding neonicotinoid pesticides is the result of a Harvard researcher named Chensheng Lu who was able to get a study published in an little known Italian peer review journal. Consequently, Lu’s paper has been the basis for attempts to restrict neonic pesticides both here and abroad. The manuscript’s research was criticized upon publication for its findings. But since the study got published, environmentalists have used it as the basis to strike up a campaign to save the bees when, in fact, a variety of different factors have lead to bee populations declining.
Again we see environmentalists politicizing science in order to achieve their perverse ends of restricting or reducing the human food supply. Neonicotinoids are used by farmers to ward off insects that destroy crops. Australia has used neonics for years and their bee populations are quite healthy. Because environmentalists are anti-human they pitch pesticides of any kind as being bad for the ecosystem despite the science not backing up their claims. The reason for that is that they are anti-human and a way to start killing humans off is to attack mankind’s food supply. It is best done by banning pesticides that assist farmers in warding off insects that consume their crop yields.
