Climate cultists decided to protest inside Citibank headquarters in New York City recently as part of the climate cult’s so-called Summer of Heat. The event is geared to call out companies who are somehow involved in the production or, in this case, financing of fossil fuels. However, a man who was reportedly a member of the bank’s staff decided to step in.

According to Daily Mail, a environmentalist representative says they have been trying to have a meeting with Citibank executives for weeks. However, Citibank gave a statement to the Daily Mail that gives a bit more context saying (in part):

‘These activist groups have repeatedly been given many avenues to engage constructively but instead they continue to pursue acts of intimidation, trespassing and vandalism.”

This is not the first time Citibank has been harassed by climate cultists. Last year, they attempted to block the entrances of Citibank’s headquarters hoping to prevent employees from entering the building and have tried doing so on at least two occasions in the last few months. This on top of a number of other methods environmentalists have used in an effort to intimidate the company.

The first video only shows a short segment of the events and, taking into account the bank’s statement the man punched, Eren Can Illeri, might have somehow instigated what happened. If environmentalists met Citibank’s executives, it is very likely it would have been a shakedown effort involving threats (i.e. give us money or else).

If the situation were such that emotions were high and environmentalists were in the building causing trouble, then it can lead to these kinds of results. On the surface, what the bank employee did was wrong and it doesn’t excuse his behavior. But, simultaneously, Illeri might have brought what happened on himself. The video also shows that Illeri grabbing the staff member’s hand and it is not impossible Illeri pulled the employee’s hand to simulate a punch in order to make him a victim.

Ultimately, the full story is not known. But when environmentalist groups cause trouble, incidents such as this can occur and the reaction is similar to when environmentalists block roads and public areas.
