Unfortunate times when the Right seeks to score political points by associating with PETA front group White Coat Waste Project.

Late last month, independent journalist Laura Loomer alleged that animal testing involving beagles were being used in laboratories overseas. Her report relied on information gathered by PETA front group White Coat Waste Project.

As an aside, the notion that beagles were intentionally tortured during NIAID laboratory tests and that they were not needed is untrue. However, the consequences of this continues to ignore a key point and a sinister intention on the part of PETA-linked White Coat Waste Project. This assertion that animal tests being sent overseas is undoubtedly true but ignores a key reason why it’s occurred.

When medical testing using animals (i.e. vivisection) can’t be done in the US then it will be sent to countries, like China. This increases the likelihood of animal mistreatment, including torture, as opposed to the U.S. and Europe where animal torture is less likely.

Agencies, like the NIAID, obviously assumed much of the responsibility for experiments involving animals because government agencies have sovereign immunity and animal rights terrorists that sabotage federal facilities can be charged with federal crimes. An arrangement similar to the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) that was developed to shield vaccine manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits and supported by President Ronald Reagan.

While private funding of medical testing is preferable, the reality is animal rights groups have harassed and intimidated laboratory staff including scientists involved in vivisection for years.

If taxpayer funding vanishes and laboratories that use animals in their tests have to raise it privately, then the labs, staff, and their donors will be vulnerable to animal rights harassment including terrorist attacks. Consequently and in the long term, more humans will die on Gaia’s altar resulting from laboratory tests involving animals being subjected to a kind of heckler’s veto.
