In an exclusive interview with the Washington Free Beacon, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the Trump administration’s Department of Energy is set to fund as many as 10 nuclear power plants to kickstart a renaissance in nuclear energy.

Wright explained that the department will leverage its newly renamed Office of Energy Dominance Financing to offer low-interest loans for the reactors, with the goal of giving a subtle boost to an industry that has long faced difficulties in initiating new developments.

He made these remarks while visiting the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) on Monday, a federal site dedicated to advanced nuclear energy research.

The Free Beacon reports the Department of Energy’s plan to fund new nuclear initiatives represents a powerful indication of the Trump administration’s commitment to launching a fresh era of nuclear reactors. President Donald Trump regards nuclear energy as a vital area for strengthening both energy supplies and national security. In May, he established an ambitious objective to quadruple the country’s nuclear output over the coming decade.

Climate Depot’s chief Marc Morano was interviewed on Fox Business recently to discuss Trump’s nuclear energy plans.
