A 90-year old California woman named Lurie Adams is suing People for the Ethical Treatment of Animas for $2.5 million resulting from defamation in light of the group shutting down her chinchilla farm with the help of the foundation of Simpsons, Cheers, and Drew Carey Show producer Sam Simon. Simon’s group is also named in the lawsuit.
Adams reportedly sold her farm in August to an unspecified buyer thinking he would take over the business. She found out after the close of the deal that it was purchased by someone associated with PETA with financing provided by the Sam Simon Foundation. Had she known this before hand, Adams said, she would not have sold her farm to the interested party.
Naturally, PETA head Ingrid Newkirk defended her group’s actions claiming that there were metal cages full of chinchillas in her farm where the animals were being treated inhumanely. The group not only stood by their actions but also posted videos of their undercover investigation into Adams’ chinchilla farm at PETA’s website. The video series includes an interview of Lurie Adams talking to an employee about euthanizing the animals with wire cutters and removing their pelts after killing them. Adams states in her suit the videos are not only illegal but some were also filmed at other chinchilla farms. The one where she talks to her employee, she says, was intentionally altered.
Environmentalist activist groups, like PETA, are nihilistic to the core and will use not only use deception but also slander their opponents if they meet resistance of any kind. Lurie Adams should have gotten legal counsel during the sale but it does not excuse PETA’s overall ethics in this matter. She was not only deceived about the purchase of her chinchilla farm but also had her good name ruined by a group who shows no mercy all with the support of a brain dead Hollywood producer.
UPDATE 12/10/2014: Lurie Adams passed away today. My condolences to her family. The news states she was under a lot of stress and I would not be surprised if it was due to the circumstances surrounding her lawsuit.
