Aside from the fact that electricity is largely generated by burning coal and using natural gas, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District claims the move will save consumers $890 million a year in health expenses resulting from reduced pollution. An assertion which is complete nonsense when taking into account a Lawrence-Berkley National Laboratory study published last year which revealed that electric heat pumps are more expensive than gas furnaces. This on top of California’s electric supply being unreliable.
