Just remember environmentalists support wind and solar power, but they have to be in the right place (where ever that is).
Activists and environmental groups including the Sierra Club sued Puerto Rico’s government Monday over the planned location of dozens of renewable energy projects meant to ease the U.S. territory’s power woes.
The lawsuit claims the projects would be built on lands that are ecologically sensitive and of high agricultural value, a violation of local laws.
The groups requested that a judge prohibit various local government agencies from approving projects on such lands, noting that they should instead be built on roofs, parking lots, landfills in disuse and previously contaminated grounds.
As a result of a law passed in 2019 requiring Puerto Rico to embrace renewable energy by 2050, its energy authority, according to the AP, has given the green light for the construction of 18 renewable energy projects on over 2000 hectares of land. However, green groups allege the projects must be relocated since they will allegedly be built on special agricultural land that is protected by local environmental laws.
The island territory is conducting this effort in hopes of lessening Puerto Rico’s reliance on fossil fuels in which the AP says petroleum accounts for 60% followed by natural gas (28%) to fuel power sources for Puerto Rico’s energy needs. However, according to the AP, Puerto Ricans pay some of the highest energy bills in the United States including experience continuous blackouts after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico six years ago.
However, if Europe’s experience is any indication, the renewables will make their situation worse. Ultimately, the environmentalist’s lawsuit is not a good thing. Even if they do halt the construction of renewable energy projects on Puerto Rico, it is another example of how unserious gang green is about having energy sources, like wind and solar, to replace fossil fuels.
Environmentalists want to destroy civilizations by robbing them of using fossil fuels which, in turn, millions of people would suffer and die.
