Michael Mann is having his day in court, and it isn’t looking good.

Dr. Michael Mann, a University of Pennsylvania earth and environmental scientist, filed a lawsuit in 2012 against Rand Simberg, an analyst at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, and National Review blogger Mark Steyn. The case was filed in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

Mann is famous for producing what’s generally referred to as the “hockey stick graph,” which purportedly shows an unprecedented rise in temperatures beginning in the 20th Century. Critics of Mann’s work contend he manipulated data to hide a decline in temperatures in order to enhance the temperature increases in the last hundred years.

Mann is suing Simberg over statements he and Steyn made in articles they posted online.

Dr. Michael Mann has a history of suing people who criticize him and this latest lawsuit is a crystal clear example. As Just the News points out, Mann has insulted Dr. Roger Pielke on his Twitter X page as stupid and a troll resulting from an ongoing disagreement between the two.

But Mann has no qualms suing people, like Mark Steyn and National Review, for posting criticisms and other comments about Mann and his work while Mann reportedly violates scientific ethical standards. Michael Mann also frequently calls critics of his notorious hockey stick graph climate deniers. But insult or criticize Mann and you might get a lawsuit summons, cease and desist letter, or you could be lucky enough for Mann will try to prevent your research paper from being published in a scientific journal like he stands accused of doing to Dr. Pielke.

Just the News reports that during court testimony, Mann was warned by one of his colleagues that his scorched earth approach to his critics might damage his reputation and it has considerably. So much so that filmmaker Phelim McAleer said he only saw one reporter from a climate change blog present to report the court proceedings. Otherwise, no other media bothered to show up.

The lack of media attention demonstrates that Mann is no longer needed by the left. But he’ll still get his research grants and other funding for his cushy job at Penn State University for being part of the team. In the meantime, enjoy the below video by Minnesotans for Global Warming. Mann sued them for a parody video they did making fun of an email released as part of the ClimateGate scandal. This is the original version Mann threatened to sue the group over.
