During late January, an avian bird flu outbreak occurred that badly affected Northern California’s poultry industry.
Shortly thereafter, it was determined that the avian bird flu had mutated to even affect other species, like grizzly bears and, unfortunately, the most recent victims of the virus’ spread are cattle in which herds as in three other states have been infected. Now, even humans are starting to be infected by this new avian super flu as well.
The amount of humans infected by the virus has been minimal likely due to their risk of infection being very low. So far, most of the people affected by the contagion have been located outside the United States and the USDA says the dairy supply is safe. Hopefully, no one else will catch the avian super flu, any cattle infected will recover quickly, and the outbreak will not be used as an excuse to close family farms.
