Lee Zeldin has welcomed DOGE members to examine the agency’s books.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency teamed up with the Department of Government Efficiency to put the kibosh on more than $67 million in grant money once earmarked to push ex-President Joe Biden’s “environmental justice” mandate, The Post has learned.
The EPA and the Elon Musk-led DOGE this week flagged 21 grants totaling $77.1 million previously awarded to 20 lefty nonprofits and universities, and the Trump administration will withhold $67.4 million in payments yet to be made, officials said.
The biggest loser is Vermont-based Institute of Sustainable Communities, which has yet to receive $12.4 million of the $16 million it was promised under two separate Biden-era grants to serve as a “National Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center.”
The new head of the EPA has been busy in his initial weeks trimming the organization’s budget and redirecting its focus to align with the Trump administration’s goals. He says that the Biden administration hastily distributed $20 billion in what he calls gold bars to its supporters before leaving office, and he’s working to recover those funds.
Last week, the EPA leader revealed that $2 billion of the $20 billion he flagged was set to go to Power Forward Communities, an environmentally-focused organization connected to Stacey Abrams.
Like his boss, Zeldin is off to a great start and hopefully he and DOGE can identify and eliminate even more wasteful spending. Climate cult groups are undoubtedly furious about not getting their payouts.
