The EU’s energy commissioner said it was one of the worst blackouts in Europe in 20 years. From the Financial Times:
Spain is one of the countries at the forefront of efforts to rely more on renewable electricity as part of the shift away from fossil fuels, but Monday’s crisis will probably fuel concerns about power networks’ ability to cope with demand and the increased volatility of supply from renewables.
Spain generates about 43 per cent of its power from wind and solar, but grid and storage capacity have not kept pace with the rapid development of renewable energy.
The media has already begun to fly cover for so-called renewable energy.
Spain’s politicians are attempting damage control.

However, Spain ignored the warnings too.
Spain’s grid operator admitted renewables triggered the collapse. Renewables is killing Europe.
