The Trump administration will keep processing oil and gas permits considered necessary during the government shutdown, as outlined in the Department of Interior’s (DOI) contingency plan. The DOI specifies that these activities will continue to protect human life and federal property.
However, according to Bloomberg, some green energy projects favored by the Biden administration may be paused. While the Biden administration restricted offshore oil and gas leasing, imposed a late-term drilling ban on vast areas, and set a minimal leasing schedule, the Trump administration is working to expand energy development on federal lands and waters.
The Department of Interior (DOI) has stated it will not prioritize wind and solar projects that were favored by the Biden administration. Former President Joe Biden promoted intermittent renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, through substantial federal funding, including grants, loans, and subsidies.
