On Wednesday, Arizona regulators voted to scrap the state’s longstanding renewable‑energy regulations, arguing they’re now unnecessary. While supporters claim the standard has already fulfilled its purpose, critics caution that the move sends a dangerous message and could affect costs and the reliability of the power grid.
The Copper State joins a number of other states and municipalities who are ending the use of so-called renewable energy sources. Not surprisingly, Arizona’s Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, weighed in opposing the repeal saying it would lead to higher utility bills and a less reliable power grid, despite evidence proving otherwise.
