Filmmaker George Lucas states that his Museum of Narrative Art might end up in Los Angeles after all. According to the Los Angeles Times, this the result of environmentalist group Friends of the Park filing a lawsuit against the project alleging it would disturb the ecosystem of the lakefront Lucas’ museum would be located. The mayor of Los Angeles apparently lobbied very hard to convince George Lucas to locate the museum on the City of Angels, but the filmmaker opted for Chicago instead. However, like George Lucas points out, despite Chicago Mayor Emmanuel’s support he is running for re-election so that further complicates matters.
If the museum does end up in LA, Lucas states he could locate on University of Southern California campus, respectfully. Consequently, museum construction would avoid much of the problems he experienced in Chicago. Denying George Lucas’ museum project is yet another instance of environmentalist NIMBYs thinking they know what is best for others and to deny people the pleasure of experiencing a product of George Lucas’ mind.
