Florida ABC News affiliate WWSB ran a story about local Sierra Club activists protesting against the construction of three houses on Anna Maria Island which will involve cutting down area mangrove trees. This despite the fact that even one protester named Andy Mele admitted that the houses being constructed in relation to the area of the island covered by mangroves is just a drop in the bucket. Environmentalists state that if a judge allows it to go forward it will set a dangerous precedent.
“If you were to remove the mangroves from the shorelines today the gulf ecosystem would crash. It’s that critical,” Mele said.
The developer Pat Neal is a former state legislator who received recognition for his efforts on the environment and is concerned about the environment as well. But green activists still insist that even a small amount of mangroves removed is too many.
In order for human beings to live they have to bend the environment to do their bidding. In this case you have environmentalist opposed to the idea of development even though the area affected is small compared to the mangroves the green are all up in arms about. Environmentalists are not concerned with mankind’s well being in the least. Neither do they want people to live in areas of the planet deemed aesthetically beautiful since any amount of enjoyment when usage of animals or building homes for people to appreciate beautiful landscapes on the part of people other than them is to be scorned and prevented for their greater good.
