India’s government has literally gone ape. In New Dehli almost 5000 red-faced rhesus macaque monkeys are hanging around New Dehli’s government buildings wreaking such havoc such as stealing food, damaging power lines and stealing documents through windows, according to Reuters.
One local animal rights activist said this is a problem that will work itself out with time. That’s little consolation if someone was to experience a monkey attack. However, Reuters also points out that many in Hindus India revere and feed the animals because they consider the animals somehow to be connected to the demigod Hanuman, who takes the form of a monkey. Consequently, the government of India may have little reason to conduct a cull due to the country being Hindu-majority. Below is a report from Inside Edition
