Another way to destroy the energy sector by forcing power plants to cut or capture their emissions by 90%. You read that right.
Some electricity providers are warning of potential energy issues surrounding a Biden administration proposal that would require power plants to dramatically reduce their emissions or shut down. Critics of the proposed rule say it will hurt our nation’s energy supply.
The United States Energy Association held a press briefing Tuesday with several energy leaders.
“Now’s the time to slow down on the removal of the thermal assets from our footprint,” said Lanny Nickell, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Southwest Power Pool.
“You do need wind. You do need solar, but you do need something to back it up,” said Barry Ingold, the chief operations officer of Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association.
The leaders warned of transitioning to renewable energy too quickly. Several energy experts agree.
The rule is reportedly stricter the one the EPA tried to impose last year but, thankfully, was blocked by the U.S. Supreme Court. Biden hopes to get power companies to use carbon capture technology, but Politco says even environmentalists admit that carbon capture has not been widely disseminated and may not be even if Biden’s rules hold up in court.
Though not all power plants will have to comply with the new rules, it will undoubtedly result in plunging the Biden White House into litigation again.
