Here we go again.

Cicada represents an evolution of the BA.3 variant, which initially emerged approximately four years ago.

Public health officials identified the variant in wastewater samples across 25 states.

In contrast, the CDC confirmed its presence in just four travelers who submitted voluntary nasal swabs.

While there’s no definitive confirmation that this variant can bypass vaccine protection, the discrepancy between wastewater findings and confirmed cases has raised questions.

As with all viruses, mutation is a natural survival mechanism—viruses must change and adapt to persist.

This mirrors what happens with seasonal influenza, where new strains regularly emerge. Given this biological reality, new COVID variants are expected to continue appearing, much like we observe with the flu each year.

Health officials aren’t certain that the variant can evade the vaccine, but obviously decided to stir up panic anyway. No wonder why confidence in them is at an all time low.
