A windfarm owned and operated by Sweden’s largest windfarm company, Markbygden Ett, has thrown in the towel.

What is interesting is that a Chinese company called CGN, China General Nuclear, has a majority stake in Markbygden Ett and what largely contributed to the company’s demise is their having to use most of their income to purchase electricity at very high prices just to keep their windmills operating when wind availability was insufficient to do so. Markbygden Ett had to do this as per the contractual agreement they had with Norwegian metals company Hydro Energi.

This, and other examples of renewable energy projects collapsing, is the result not only due to a lack of wind and sunshine but of government largess that kept them afloat for many years has dried up as of late and it couldn’t have happened a moment too soon.
