This couldn’t have happened a moment too soon.
In what he called the “most consequential day of deregulation in American history,” the head of the Environmental Protection Agency announced a series of actions Wednesday to roll back landmark environmental regulations, including rules on pollution from coal-fired power plants, climate change and electric vehicles.
“We are driving a dagger through the heart of climate-change religion and ushering in America’s Golden Age,’’ EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in an essay in The Wall Street Journal.
If approved after a lengthy process that includes public comment, the Trump administration’s actions will eliminate trillions of dollars in regulatory costs and “hidden taxes,” Zeldin said, lowering the cost of living for American families and reducing prices for such essentials such as buying a car, heating your home and operating a business.
According to the AP, Zeldin announced plans to reverse 31 environmental regulations, including a key scientific finding that has served as the primary justification for U.S. climate change policies.
Zeldin, along with President Donald Trump, advocates for revising the 2009 EPA determination that greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming, pose a threat to public health and welfare. This Obama-era ruling, established under the Clean Air Act, provides the legal foundation for numerous climate-related regulations targeting motor vehicles, power plants, and other sources of pollution.
The proposed changes will not be implemented right away, and most will need to undergo an extensive rulemaking procedure. Not surprisingly, environmental organizations have pledged to fight against these measures, with one group warning that they could lead to the most significant surge in U.S. pollution in decades.
Executive director of the Environmental Defense Fund Amanda Leland asserted this as she condemned Zeldin’s actions, calling them an illegal assault on the public health of Americans.
Climate change isn’t primarily about safeguarding the environment or protecting the planet; rather, it often revolves around political control. The Left hates capitalism and innovation because people who flourish are harder to control and that is precisely why and Lee Zeldin’s efforts have exposed the true intent of the groups who will oppose his deregulation efforts.
