Climate alarmists would have an easier time stopping misinformation as long as they are the only ones able to disseminate it.
Tortoise Media, considered a leftwing British news site, launched a campaign called “Hot Air” this month that blames the shift in public support for climate policies on the spread of what it calls “misinformation.”
“Hot Air: the danger of climate misinformation” purportedly uses AI to create a database of online content expressing skeptical views of the “climate crisis” narrative. The goal of the initiative is to identify influencers and publications that are spreading this alleged “misinformation” online and get social media companies to remove the content.
According to their methodology, they “identified 274 online actors and 129,334 posts from those actors which we collated into the Hot Air tool. Our research encompassed X, YouTube, TikTok and various news websites and blogs that we identified as frequently disseminating climate change counter-narratives.”
The Hot Air campaign builds on the work of the anti-fossil fuel activist site Desmog, which has long maintained a black list of individuals it labels as climate disinformers, using a similar methodology.
Just the News also points out the Hot Air campaign article highlights the growing online presence of views opposing the mainstream narrative, following a similar initiative by Desmog and well-funded nonprofit efforts to promote the “climate crisis” narrative across media. However, it remains to be seen whether Hot Air will achieve its intended goals, as its impact may be limited to those already aligned with the campaigners’ views.
Since the Left can’t properly and rationally defend their ideas, they resort to suppressing their opposition or people who express doubts about their assertions. Climate change isn’t about protecting the environment, it is about exerting political control over people’s lives.
Below is a video highlighting a University of Michigan study from last year that discusses this very topic.
