Former senior aide to Joe Biden, Neera Tandem, informed Congress that she was authorized to use autopen signatures on behalf of the president, but she is unaware of who issued the final approval.
Considering that Biden’s autopen was used to sign pardons, correspondence, and other significant documents (like executive orders), access to it should have been strictly regulated and closely monitored. Tanden’s admission that she did not know who gave the final approval is utterly shocking.
What is of concern is whether or not Biden knew or even agreed with or even had knowledge of the documents he signed. During a recent interview, Speaker Mike Johnson said Biden told him he didn’t remember signing an executive order related to liquified natural gas.
If it is proven Biden didn’t know about the orders he signed, then it might all call into question the legality of every significant document where the autopen was used, like the ones he approved related to renewable energy and climate change.
