In other words, the American Left is a Fifth Column largely supported by China.
An American energy leader is warning that several progressive “green” environmental groups opposing President Donald Trump’s nuclear energy plans are linked to a “web of dark money” groups with ties to former President Barack Obama and other Democrats.
Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Energy Institute, warned during an interview with Fox News Digital that while claiming to stand for the planet, these groups “have prioritized ideology over innovation” and are “driven by green activists and groups deeply tied to the Democratic Party.”
“You follow the money, you’ll see where it leads. It leads straight to partisan mega-donors, foreign interests, and failed climate crusaders,” Isaac said. “This isn’t about the environment. It’s about political control over America’s energy future and our energy dominance.”
In many ways, this is nothing new. The Middle Kingdom has been ramping up propaganda in the U.S. resulting from Donald Trump’s re-election that initially began during his first term and it is a highly sophisticated operation.
The Institute for Energy Research posted a comprehensive manuscript detailing the money behind Big Green during 2019 that reveals billions in funding from liberal foundations that back efforts like aggressive climate lawsuits, advocate for impractical renewable energy, and push restrictive regulations. Worst of all, a lot of these campaigns are also being funded using taxpayer money.
What social-media platforms should do stop all of this is leverage their control over digital infrastructure to better combat cyber-enabled influence operations. To hinder future campaigns, platforms could restrict engagement analytics for accounts violating policies, limiting malicious actors’ ability to gauge their operations’ impact.
Governments and allies should enhance intelligence diplomacy to address this growing security threat, increasing information sharing on influence operations. Robust open-source intelligence skills and collection are vital for investigating and attributing these activities, with their low classification facilitating easier intelligence exchange.
Other nations, like Russia, fund opposition groups in the U.S. and Europe, but China is playing the long game. They know that the present day or contemporary battlefield isn’t in the sea, on land, or in the air but online. There must be better efforts undertaken to blunt their misinformation or propaganda.
