The Deep State strikes back.

Seven former staffers at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are suing the agency after it fired them following their criticisms of the Trump administration.

The employees were let go after signing a letter saying that the administration was undermining public trust and ignoring scientific consensus to benefit polluters, among other concerns.

On Tuesday, they filed two lawsuits, arguing that their firings violated their freedom of speech and seeking reinstatement at the EPA.

Seven EPA employees—three in D.C. (Claire Balani, Lane To, Alexis Wright) and four in Illinois (Andreas Harris, Alexander Cole, Stephanie Eytcheson, Anna Laird)—sued on Tuesday, claiming unlawful firings for First Amendment activity on personal time. A June 2025 Declaration of Dissent letter, organized by Stand Up for Science, opposed Trump administration policies on deregulation and science. The group seeks pro-science Congress members and holds rallies.

This lawsuit is going to be hard to litigate and may just be for show. Late last month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Trump had the authority to remove leaders of regulatory agencies at will. The EPA falls under the authority of the Executive Branch and the President is CEO.
