A curious endorsement on the part of the Sierra Club in Berkeley city council elections. The green group endorsed the incumbent candidate for Mayor. However, one periodical belittled this decision due to Linda Maio’s opponent wanting to require dental offices in the city to inform patients about mercury content in dental fillings.

Despite studies having been done to done deeming mercury levels in dental fillings safe, it has not stopped the Sierra Club from demonizing the usage of it. This makes sense and it is obvious the logic behind the Sierra Club’s campaign against mercury also filtered into the anti-vaccine movement with it’s opposition to thimerosal.

Any levels of mercury be they in vaccines or in dental implants are not going to hurt the average individual. If they do, the person harmed has the ability of redress. Otherwise it is nothing more than fear mongering by environmentalist groups to stop the progress of science. The Sierra Club’s opposition to mercury reminds me of the fluoride conspiracy theory. Continuous circular logic despite evidence to the contrary that refutes their notions.
