Japanese doctor praised for countering anti-vaccine misinformation

Japanese doctor Riko Muranaka was awarded the 2017 John Maddox prize for countering anti-vaccine misinformation about the HPV vaccine. During 2013 the Japanese government suspended HPV immunizations resulting from misinformation from anti-vaccine groups.

Dr. Muranaka is being sued by Dr. Suichi Ikeda who was commissioned by the Japanese government to investigate the effects of the HPV vaccine. She accused Ikeda of doing shoddy research on the effects of the HPV vaccine. Below is a video where Dr. Muranaka met with members of the press last year to brief them on the controversy surrounding the lawsuit and her critique of Dr. Ikeda’s research.
