Climate change is sidelined to blame power companies like California does. But it is not as clear cut as media outlets, like The Washington Post, would like you to think.
The utility serves on a double edged sword. If they cut off power, then people would complain they didn’t have power to keep up on the fire’s progress. If the power remains on, their infrastructure is blamed. But did the utility petition for permits to upgrade its infrastructure? If so, what was the result? Were they held up?
Not surprisingly, a lawsuit has already been filed against Hawaii Electric and Maui Electric Company. Boy, that was quick! The ambulance chasers must have had their briefs and plaintiffs ready days after the fire started. Great way to blame power companies while, as CBS News points out, Hawaiian officials didn’t order power lines shut off.
