It is entirely understandable that Britons think this latest action doesn’t pass the sniff test. The UK’s Labour politicians continue to show their contempt for British farmers not only by continuing to pursue enacting new taxes on them but also by considering a mandate where farmers will be required to feed all suitable (whatever that means) cattle will be given methane-reducing Bovaer-like products in 6 years.
The proposed mandate follows efforts by British dairy farmers to meet consumer demands for Bovaer-free products. In the post-COVID era, people are more cautious about blindly trusting experts on matters concerning their health and diet.
Additionally, the climate-change argument no longer has the same impact it once did.
As it turns out, even one of King Charles III’s farming advisers has criticized Arla Foods, a company testing Bovaer, for attempting to re-engineer the cow with its trial.
One of King Charles’ farming advisors has claimed the UK’s biggest dairy co-operative is attempting to “re-engineer the cow” with its new trial to add a methane-suppressing supplement into cow feed.
Arla Foods announced the initiative aimed at tackling climate-heating methane emissions produced by cows during digestion.
The firm is working alongside Morrisons, Aldi and Tesco on the project, which will trial the use of a feed additive named Bovaer across 30 British farms.
Patrick Holden, an adviser to the King and the founder of the Sustainable Food Trust, told the Telegraph that Arla had “resorted to feed additives to maintain positive PR for their dairy-farming industry”.
Placing additives, like Bovaer, aren’t just ineffective to reduce carbon emissions, but also hikes the cost of meat and dairy products. Then again that may be the whole point.
In light of all of this, it is not surprising that the Labour government is undoubtedly ignoring a petition calling for a new election has garnered almost 3 million signatures. It may not be binding but it is a good way to measure Briton’s displeasure with Prime Minister Kier Starmer and his honchos including how temporary Labour’s time in office will be.
