Futuro Vegetal vandals defaced a Christopher Columbus painting at Madrid’s Naval Museum yesterday during Spain’s national holiday. At least they used biodegradable paint.

The 1892 artwork, created by artist José Garnelo, is called First Tribute to Christopher Columbus and shows the explorer arriving in the Americas holding a Christian cross. Unfortunately, the painting was not protected and museum employees are working to restore the painting.

Euronews reports both vandals were quickly arrested and charged with offenses against cultural heritage, then taken for questioning.

In a press release, the climate cult organization stated they condemn the extractive neocolonialism that persists in exploiting Indigenous lands and natural resources. But, this is where these two vandals and their organization sides with.
