A very interesting article posted at Biz Pac Review that was republished from The Daily Broward detailing the activities of Everglades Foundation and the Everglades Trust. These two little known groups allegedly funded an effort to shut down sugar cultivation in Palm Beach County. First, greens attempted to pressure the Florida legislature into buying lands owned by the US Sugar Corporation and then conducted a smear campaign against legislators who would not support the purchase. After the land acquisition attempt failed, environmentalists then attacked US Sugar Corporation and other sugar farmers in Palm Beach County in hopes of shutting down sugar cane cultivation in the municipality. The groups used images of fires and claims of toxic and pollution all of which were unfounded.
The Everglades Trust and Everglades Foundation seem to be two separate groups but, in reality are not. The article states:
On paper, the Everglades Foundation and the Everglades Trust seem to appear as two separate organizations, but a more in-depth look rips away that deception – Erik Eikenberg is the current CEO of the Everglades Foundation, but also serves as Board Member for the Everglades Trust. Kirk Fordham is the FORMER CEO of the Everglades Foundation, and serves as a Board Member for the Everglades Trust. Mary Barley, whose husband George Barley founded the Everglades Foundation, served as both Chairman and Vice-Chair of the Everglades Foundation, and now serves as President and Treasurer of the Everglades Trust.
Environmentalism is a religion since it relies on the morality of self-sacrifice (i.e. altruism) of its ethics. This is yet another example of intimidation by environmentalist groups and the reported outright fraud and intimidation is an extension of that ethic. In this case, The Everglades Trust and Everglades Foundation falsely presents themselves as separate organizations and subsidizes attempts to manipulate the truth with the end goal of shutting down Florida’s sugar cane industry. Furthermore, environmentalists hate capitalism to the point that it will destroy the lives of employees of companies who are involved in sugar production that is used for products people consume mainly for enjoyment.
