The New York Times published an article citing a study featured in the scientific journal Science last Thursday. The manuscript makes the case that coral reefs are bleaching because of global warming and do not have sufficient recovery time to when severe bleaching episodes occur.
What is curious, however, is that after The Times‘ article on coral reefs affected by climate change was published, a story was published the next day pointing out how the Crown of Thorns starfish was consuming the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Then again, according to environmentalist’s logic, global warming probably contributed to the star fish being there anyway.
In the below video, Paul Talbot at Majestic Aquariums points out that the events making out coral reef bleachings and starfish consumptions take place frequently and coral reefs can survive and even thrive.
