49 people were murdered in tragic shootings that took place at two separate mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand yesterday. The man accused of carrying these heinous acts out is named Brenton Tarrant who is a 28 year old man from Australia.
Two other people are in custody in connection to the plot. But what is surprising about this entire incident isn’t just the fact that Tarrant carefully planned and executed his operation, live streaming it on social media while carrying it out, it is his underlying ideology which is the basis for his reasons for doing so.
According to The Epoch Times, Tarrant considers himself a racist eco-fascist who looks to Communist China as his model society. He also condemned conservatism, denounced Donald Trump, was inspired by Norwegian shooter Anders Behring Breivik and expressed admiration for British fascist Sir Oswald Mosley.
It is not surprising that Brenton Tarrant includes environmentalism in his overall, collectivist ideology. It is surprising, however, he did not tip his hat to Charles Manson since Manson held similar concerns about the environment to the point where he was willing to kill to preserve it too. Additionally, Nazi Germany enacted legal protections for forms of nature, including animals. It is grounded in a mystical reverence of nature grounded in the altrustic sacrifice of National Socialism.
No doubt many environmentalist groups would condemn or distance themselves from Brenton Tarrant’s views. However, much of what environmentalist groups stand for and their actions clearly reveal they are quietly and gradually seeking to achieve what Tarrant accomplished. Just like the Charles Manson and other eco-terrorists before and after him (like the Unabomber), environmentalists can consider Brenton Tarrant one of their champions.
