So far, deaths associated with California’s San Fernando Valley area wildfire has climbed to 3 and, unfortunately, the fire still burns. Thankfully, the fire has moved to areas not occupied by residents which will make controlling and suppressing it easier.
However, with the outcry resulting from Pacific Gas and Electric’s decision to cut off power to areas issued Red Flag warnings that result in PG&E taking such action, one thing needs to be pointed out that has not gotten any attention or might not have been considered: California legislator’s goal is to eventually drive private power companies out of providing energy for state residents altogether in order for the state to assume the role.
Consider that during January of this year, PG&E faced criminal charges resulting from being held responsible for wildfire outbreaks due to one of its gas pipelines in San Bruno exploding in 2010. The federal judge overseeing the case not only ordered the power company to trim trees that could fall on its power lines, they were simultaneously commanded to shut off power to areas deemed a wildfire risk.
Then, come May of this year, the California Public Utilities Commission approved new rules that were along the same lines as the January court order, requiring PG&E to turn off power to areas with high winds and dry weather as well. With all of this in mind, and that buying wildfire insurance in the Golden State is extremely expensive, the only alternative residents have is to sue PG&E.
Couple the legal liabilities associated with PG&E’s having to comply with court and regulatory orders and it makes for a perfect storm for Pacific Gas & Electric and any other private power company to be driven out of business. The end result is that the state of California assumes the role and taxpayers are on the hook to pay for even worse service since the sole decision maker is a bureaucrat located in a nicely decorated office earning a six digit salary in Sacramento.
The evil behind this are the people who have died or lives were ruined resulting from California Leftist politico schemes and the environmentalists who were all too willing to block efforts to reduce forests and other dried vegetation that can be fuel for wildfires down the line. California is officially a Communist state dominated by single party rule and environmentalist political groups who help carry out the plans to strengthen the state’s Leftist political machine.
