Despite being a global misfortune that can kill millions of people a year, Reuters reports scientists have concluded that air pollution helps shield us from the full force of the sun. Researchers came to this conclusion after reviewing numerous reports from China on how they combatted pollution over a ten year period.

Though thousands of lives were saved by the Middle Kingdom’s anti-pollution efforts (a good thing), Reuters reveals when pollution is eradicated, there is no longer a buffer to dissipate the effects of solar radiation and this, in turn, can lead to higher temperatures including frequent heatwaves. This, in turn, might have had a larger effect on temperatures in Chinese cities over the last ten years, Reuters states.

Researchers also told Reuters that air quality improvement efforts could push the Earth into more catastrophic warming scenarios accompanied by irreversible effects. However, some scientists hypothesize that the effects of ridding areas of air pollution could be offset by crackdowns on methane (i.e. shut down the farmers). So if air pollution can be given a pass, the elites will clamp down on cow flatulence or rob us of our food supply by seizing farms for the greater good.
