Despite the Environmental Protection Agency recently announcing that the cleanup in East Palestine, Ohio is nearly complete, town residents are still demanding answers not only from the EPA, but also from town officials as well.
According to NewsNation, East Palestine residents aren’t just asking for transparency with the information made available to the mayor, but also any potential legal action to be taken against Norfolk Southern as well as if the railroad company has made any changes to their emergency response plans, speed limit changes for trains that go through the town, and what is being done to address resident’s concerns about contamination.
NewsNation also reports, East Palestine residents say that meetings between town and federal officials have been held behind closed doors and residents with ongoing health issues were apparently prevented from speaking at public hearings including also the mayor did not an increase in seizure cases.
All of these raise serious questions that deserve to be addressed, including the criteria the town used to hire an independent tester to examine chemical compounds in area soil.
