The Telegram reports the European Union has backed off from their proposal to reduce nitrogen and other emissions (such as methane) including restrictions of pesticide use along with a campaign urging Europeans to eat less meat. However, it isn’t over. E.U. president Ursula Von der Leyen has also said that new proposals will be more mature and new rules will undoubtedly be released after European elections that will occur in June. Plenty of time for voters to forget or the opposition’s momentum to fade.

This as part of a growing trend around Europe where some governments, like in Italy, have backed down, while other farmer protests in countries (such as France, Spain and Greece) are still ongoing. Environmentalists, like Friends of the Earth, are not happy since they obviously want to shut down farmers in hopes of restricting the food supply so more humans die off.
