The company’s board and CEO really thought they wouldn’t be found out.
Earlier this month, Harley-Davidson’s leadership was under scrutiny due to a series of puzzling strategic choices and public relations moves that have drawn significant attention.
CEO Jochen Zeitz’s woke internal agenda, including his startling comparisons of himself to the Taliban in the name of sustainability, has reportedly harmed the motorcycle brand’s reputation. Fox News reports this has led to widespread social media backlash and a rebellion among Harley-Davidson’s dedicated customers.
Just two days ago, Harley-Davidson issued the below statement rejecting DEI and other contentious initiatives implemented in recent years.

Fox News reached out to all board members for their opinions on CEO Jochen Zeitz’s future, but (so far) none responded. Zeitz is largely blamed for introducing what many bikers view as excessive woke policies.
Although some recent changes have been well-received, Zeitz is the one who implemented these controversial policies, which the company is now having to reverse. Given that his vision seems misaligned with the core customer base, it’s unclear how the board will justify keeping him in his role.
The statement the company issued is weak and deliberately phrased to mislead shareholders about Harley-Davidson’s dedication about curbing these unnecessary corporate initiatives. With the current CEO in place, the company will never fully achieve its core values. Additionally, the CEO’s foreign citizenship adds to the perception of the company being anti-American.
Notice that Harley-Davidson’s letter does not state that the company was permanently eliminating DEI, the DEI department, or its staff. It only mentioned that all future DEI activities would require management approval, without explicitly banning DEI events altogether.
As soon as they sense that people are no longer paying attention, the board will restart the DEI initiatives at Harley-Davidson with full intensity. The present leadership’s agenda would have bankrupted the company and, hopefully, they will do the right thing by quitting altogether.
