Volkswagen (VW) has introduced a subscription service in the UK for select electric ID.3 models, enabling customers to increase engine power.

Auto Express reports for £16.50 monthly, £165 yearly, or a one-time payment of £649, owners can unlock enhanced performance. This upgrade stays with the vehicle, even if resold.

A VW spokesperson said this is not a new concept, as many traditional petrol and diesel cars have offered engines of the same size with varying power levels. Other automakers, such as BMW and Mercedes, have similarly adopted subscription models for additional features.

That doesn’t make it right and, as the host and guests imply below, imagine being shut out from your vehicle for forgetting your car payment or exceeding your monthly carbon emissions target.
