It boggles the mind when university students are suddenly Constitutional scholars.

As the Trump administration cracks down on both environmental policies and progressive activism, the Sunrise Movement, the youth-led climate justice organization that popularized calls for a Green New Deal, is widening its mission to fight authoritarianism.

“Every day, Donald Trump is seizing power and shredding the Constitution,” Sunrise’s executive director, Aru Shiney-Ajay, wrote in an open letter to Sunrise members, funders and allies. “What ordinary people do in the coming months will determine whether he and his billionaire cronies can cement their grip on power and turn this country into a playground for the rich and powerful.”

Unlike the majority of Sunrise’s past work, its newer efforts will not necessarily center the climate crisis. But Stevie O’Hanlon, a co-founder and spokesperson for Sunrise, said the projects will aim to build a world where climate action is possible.

The Sunrise Movement is notorious for organizing or encouraging illegal protests and disruptions, and was highlighted in a major Capital Research Center report that exposed how George Soros funneled $80 million to support pro-terrorist organizations, including Sunrise. The CRC report prompted the Justice Department to instruct prosecutors to develop plans for investigating Soros’s Open Society Foundations.

It seems Soros is reaping significant benefits from his funding of Sunrise, as the group actively opposes Trump on his behalf. Sunrise Executive Director Aru Shiney-Ajay told The Intercept, ‘There is no serious way to think about stopping the climate crisis under a fascist government.’ She continued: ‘The path to climate lies through getting rid of the authoritarian government we’re in.’

CRC investigative researcher Ryan Mauro noted that Sunrise, in particular, endorsed the Antifa-linked Stop Cop City campaign, in which activists currently face over 40 domestic terrorism charges and 60 racketeering indictments. Mauro explained that this coalition engaged in arson, property damage and violence against law enforcement personnel and utility workers to try to stop construction of this local police training center. He detailed the attacks, which included Attacks include setting a police vehicle ablaze; throwing Molotov cocktails, bricks and rocks at police; setting construction equipment on fire; blocking roads with obstacles like tires; harming police officers’ eyes with lasers; and attacking the Atlanta Police Foundation’s building with fireworks.

However, according to The Intercept, Sunrise Executive Director Aru Shiney-Ajay stated that supporting a major leftist funder aligns with the group’s mission to fight climate change by advancing federal climate legislation. Despite claims from both Sunrise and Soros’s Open Society Foundations that they reject violence, it is obvious that both groups are undoubtedly trying to be deceitful in the face of mountains of evidence, like the below X post, that shows otherwise.
