Passengers on the luxury cruise ship Hondius were quarantined aboard after officials and the cruise operator for two weeks after a suspected hantavirus outbreak linked to the deaths of three people.
The Dutch vessel requested emergency assistance after reaching Cape Verde, off the coast of West Africa, with 150 people on board, according to the Associated Press. Laboratory tests have confirmed one case of hantavirus, along with five additional suspected cases and three deaths, the World Health Organization reported in a May 3 update.
One patient is being treated in intensive care in South Africa, while the WHO noted that two crew members required urgent medical attention. Both passengers and crew members were recently cleared by Cape Verde authorities to disembark, Oceanwide Expeditions said.
According to the CDC, Hantavirus is primarily transmitted through contact with rodent droppings and urine. It can cause severe illness and death, often presenting with symptoms such as hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Not surprisingly, the drive by media is trying to hype this obviously in hopes of convincing people the hantavirus the makings of another pandemic and people are already drinking the Kool Aid.
Others are hoping for another outbreak.
However, this time they may not trust or follow the science.
However, like the CDC, the WHO at first said COVID-19 wasn’t a risk only to later say it was so take this for what its worth and even the ship’s captain might be a candidate for having his credibility or reputation destroyed.
