The Hockey Stick and Climategate Exposed

During 2010, Steve McIntyre gave a lecture at the Heartland Institute’s Fourth International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC-4) in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. McIntyre is a director for a Canadian mining exploration company, was a minerals prospector and is a semi-retired mining consultant whose work has encompassed statistical analysis.

In 2003, he and economist Ross McKittrick submitted a research paper that was published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters presenting a statistical assessment of the methodology behind the hockey stick graph whose primary author is Dr. Michael Mann of the University of Virginia. Dr. Mann’s graph reveals that the increase in late 20th century global temperatures is unusual in the past 1,000 years and has been used as evidence that climate change is due to human activity.
