Bill Nye is no longer The Science Guy but is now The Eugenics Guy. On his new Netflix-based show named Bill Nye Saves the Earth, he posited the question to one of his show’s guest panelists if it would be a good idea to have the government penalize parents in the developed world for having extra kids.
Nye’s show claims to examine various problems through a scientific lens. Yet this very point is based on a long debunked Malthusian premise that resources and Earth space is finite and there is not enough food or space to accommodate increases in population.
This idea was the basis of the book The Population Bomb. The ideas in it and its author, Paul Erlich, have been shown to be horribly wrong.
Bill Nye has no formal or professional scientific background and presently holds a degree in engineering. He does, however, have a reputation of making provocative and insulting comments toward people who do not subscribe to or question the so-called consensus on human-induced climate change as climate denialists.
When it comes to people like Bill Nye and his suggestion that population is the cause of the planet’s problems, I am reminded of former EarthFirst! Journal Editor John Davis who said: Human beings, as a species, have no more value than slugs. Or Dr. Lamont Cole who said: To feed a starving child is to exacerbate the world population problem. Zoologist and Greenpeace co-founder Dr. Patrick Moore says that one of the first things he notices is that environmentalists tend to be anti-human.
Population control is the elephant in the room for environmentalists and Bill Nye’s raising this issue and panelists willing to consider it shows this idea maybe rearing its ugly head again. You can watch an excerpt of what Nye and his guests said below:
