John Stossel has a column published in Reason magazine pointing out that the Pilgrims founded the Massachusetts colony at Plymouth Plantation in December 1620. The colonists set about creating a heaven on earth based on Biblical principles. A society without private property, where all worked for the common good and, consequently, the Pilgrims promptly started experiencing starvation and even death.
Essentially, the Pilgrim settlers established their colony based on religious principles that are on par with what is known today as Communism. Stossel’s essay and the below video reveal what isn’t taught in history books about why America celebrates Thanksgiving. Ayn Rand also said it best:
[Thanksgiving] is a producers’ holiday. The lavish meal is a symbol of the fact that abundant consumption is the result and reward of production. Abundance is (or was and ought to be) America’s pride—just as it is the pride of American parents that their children need never know starvation.
