During June, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned at a UNESCO conference in Lisbon, Portugal that the world is facing an ocean emergency citing the Australian Great Barrier Reef as proof, claiming it experienced a was in danger claiming it suffered another mass bleaching event. As it turns out, the Australian Institute of Marine Sciences issued a report recently saying that while the barrier reef did have challenges, on the whole the coral reef system is vibrant and flourishing.
