Harrowing news out of California makes sense of why the left is determined to push the West to fully embrace so-called renewable energy.
The state’s grid, which is still mainly powered by fossil fuels, is undergoing a major shift from natural gas and coal power to renewable power like wind and solar. Simultaneously, state officials are pushing an electrification of the economy, particularly in the transportation sector through electric vehicle mandates, which is expected to increase pressure on the grid.
“California is drastically cutting our dependence on fossil fuels and cleaning our air,” Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a November announcement unveiling the “world’s first detailed pathway to carbon neutrality.”
The state’s plan involves goals to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 85%, cut oil usage by 94% and deploy more solar and wind capacity over the next two decades. The aggressive plan to overhaul the state’s energy system came three months after a top California environmental agency moved forward with a rule requiring all new vehicle sales to be electric by 2035.
This is an intentional fast dash to a man-made catastrophe based on pseudo-scientific and quasi-religious utopian thinking. If you’d like to know more, consider this quote from a recent CBS News story regarding the cost of charging electric vehicles:
“We have a Prius Prime that we normally drive around town, and we drive most of it on electricity. It’s now 50% more expensive than gas.”
California is the largest importer of electricity in the country and people, like Gavin Newsom and Joe Biden, know full well that renewable energy sources (including electric vehicles) will not save consumers money nor provide people with affordable and abundant sources of energy to preserve the lifestyles we have now. Environmentalist’s unicorn green energy schemes are poised to be a massive strain on the state and country’s power grids, especially if they’re mandated and the end result is to destroy our way of life (except for the privileged, leftist elites.
Consider this part of Monday’s CBS News report after it was noted that power rates have gone up 30% since last summer:

New Englanders are seeing uniquely high EV charging costs because the region currently has the highest electricity prices in the country. At about 28 cents per kilowatt-hour this fall, it’s double the national average.
Ironically, it’s the region’s dependence on fossil fuels that’s pushing these costs higher. About 45% of New England’s electricity comes from methane gas, compared with about 38% nationwide, while the fuel has tripled in price since Russia invaded Ukraine a year ago. All the region’s utilities are raising their electricity rates, although the specific costs can vary a lot even within a small area, WBUR reported this fall.
Biden and Newsom severely restrict the ability of oil companies to drill for more natural gas and the price ratchets up, ignore warnings about fossil fuel rules including the inadequacies of renewable energy and the media is all too happy to report that it is our dependence on fossil fuels that is the reason raising costs.
But don’t you dare blame renewable energy despite the fact that they are a large part of the problem along with fossil fuel drilling regulations. To sum this all up, this is all about you being the carbon they want to reduce.
