Around the end of June, many cities in California not only added more penalties to their banned fireworks laws but also canceled fireworks displays. Some city leaders did so citing albeit legitimate safety concerns with potential wildfires, while others did so for environmental reasons (may be global boiling?). Police in the state have been attempting to clamp down on illegal fireworks in California for some time too. However, not all cities in the state ban fireworks and certain kinds (like sparklers) that are legal in many areas.

None the less, Golden State residents decided they were having none of it and took it upon themselves to thumb their noses at California politicos by hosting their own fireworks displays. It was fantastic!

Ultimately, it’s irresponsible people who start fires with fireworks. Fireworks don’t start fires any more than guns cause violence. Urge people to be responsible with fireworks and give advice on how to do so. Outlawing fireworks will only make a bad situation worse.

Also, California politicians are reluctant to thin forests usually due to lawsuits from environmentalists that block any such efforts that put state residents at risk. Instead of penalizing citizens, start pushing back against environmentalists and the policies they support that enable wildfires to occur.

Let freedom ring!
