The environmentalist movement shares a lot of commonalities with the Communists. Both groups seek to remake society by attempting to change human nature. It is no coincidence that after the Soviet Union collapsed, many former communists folded into the environmentalist movement. The political Left discovered it was easier to make the case for collectivizing the globe by using the planet’s environment as the rationale to enact their policies. The greens want to accomplish their goal by laying guilt on humans for any environmental degradation. They go so far as to even state that not eating meat is a way to contribute to reducing a person’s carbon footprint.
With this in mind it should come as no surprise as to what Bay Area couple Matthew and Terces Engelhart experienced when they decided to end their veganism and start eating meat. According to LAist, in 2004 the Engelharts opened one of San Francisco’s premier vegan restaurants Cafe Gratitude. The establishment became so popular that entertainers, such as Beyonce, ate there. The Engelharts went on to help found one other restaurant, Gracias Madre while their daughter Mollie owns Sage Organic Vegan Bistro jointly with actor Woody Harrelson.
The Engelharts were vegans for over forty years and their food efforts were a sensation with the thriving Bay area vegan and vegetarian culture. However, during March of 2015 the couple announced on their Be Love Farm website blog, citing religious reasons, that they were going to eat meat. The blog post included a picture of Matthew Engelhart eating a hamburger for the first time after 40 years of forging meat.
After about a month, race driver Lelani Munter tweeted the news to her 25,000 followers and all hell broke loose. The news spread like wildfire resulting in not only one star Yelp and Facebook reviews along with a Facebook boycott group but also death threats. It should also be noted that the LAist article had this to say about the backlash regarding the Engelhart’s new dietary choice:
It’s harder to understand the death threats the Engelharts say they’ve been getting. If being a vegan means respecting all life, then threatening to kill a couple humans for their decision to reverse their diets seems pretty hypocritical.
Then came this realization quoting Matthew Engelhart:
People have taken up the mob mentality,” Engelhart told the Hollywood Reporter. “It saddens me that the choices we made in the privacy of our home would lead people to feel so betrayed that it’s elevated to threats on our lives. I’m very discouraged.
The Engelharts have every right to be upset but they have also done an invaluable service by exposing the true nature of the vegan movement which is grounded in environmentalism: the negation and hatred of human life. Environmentalists seek to change human nature in the same way their Communist cousins do by not only attempting to remake history, philosophy, science, politics and economics but also down to the very food they consume, all int he name of sacrificing mankind in favor of nature. Like Communism, Environmentalism is a religion and the death threats people like the Engelharts have been receiving from vegans shows the environmentalist movement’s tribalistic, intolerance of dissent and individuality.
